El Salvador is still establishing itself as a global center for tech innovation and cryptocurrencies. Following Tether’s recent decision to set up its corporate base in El Salvador, President Nayib Bukele has publicly invited Rumble, the video-sharing site, to move its headquarters there.
The Call to Rumble from Bukele
President Bukele’s offer was sent on Twitter on January 13, 2025, just after Chris Pavlovski, the CEO of Rumble, alluded to joint ventures with Paolo Ardoino, the CEO of Tether.
“You should move your headquarters here too ,”
Bukele tweeted, seizing the opportunity to urge Rumble to follow Tether’s example.
This proposal has raised questions about whether El Salvador would become a popular location for digital entrepreneurs and cryptocurrency companies. The concept of a concentrated crypto business hub in the nation was praised by some analysts, but others questioned whether such actions would cause strategy to change away from Bitcoin-centric projects.
Tether Sets Up Headquarters in El Salvador
After obtaining a license to function as a digital asset service provider in El Salvador, Tether decided to relocate its headquarters there. This calculated move highlights El Salvador’s increasing allure for blockchain and cryptocurrency businesses.
The decision will be accompanied by large investments in the local economy, according to Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino. Over the coming years, the company intends to hire about 100 Salvadoran workers. Nonetheless, the majority of Tether’s more than 100 staff worldwide will continue to work remotely.
Ardoino praised President Bukele’s pro-crypto measures and called El Salvador a “beacon of freedom and innovation.”
El Salvador: A New Center for Crypto?
International attention is still drawn to El Salvador’s aggressive approach to cryptocurrencies, which was demonstrated in 2021 when it recognized Bitcoin as legal tender. According to observers, the nation appeals to tech companies looking for a progressive base of operations because of its welcoming regulatory climate and readiness to adopt new technology.
Tether’s action supports this story, but Bukele’s approach to Rumble suggests a larger goal to draw in various tech companies, which might establish El Salvador as a hub for digital innovation and cryptocurrencies.
