The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has dismantled websites tied to three fraudulent cryptocurrency recovery services, targeting a scheme that exploits individuals who have already fallen victim to cryptocurrency fraud. The FBI’s San Diego Field Office announced the seizure of websites linked to Mychargeback, Payback Ltd., and Claim Justice. These companies falsely claimed to specialize in recovering lost crypto assets, but according to the FBI, they have no proven success in retrieving funds.

These fraudulent services frequently demand hefty upfront fees and commissions, leveraging false promises of success. The FBI further highlighted how these companies use aggressive social media marketing and fabricated reviews to lure victims. To enhance their credibility, the fraudsters often falsely claim affiliations with law enforcement agencies or financial institutions.

The FBI cautioned the public to avoid upfront payments for recovery services, verify any claims of law enforcement ties, and report suspicious activities to the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3). The agency also advises individuals to research any company advertising crypto recovery services thoroughly and to avoid sharing personal financial details with unverified sources.
