According to Kraken’s most recent transparency report, the San Francisco-based cryptocurrency exchange saw a 39% increase in regulatory and enforcement data requests in 2024, with U.S. agencies—specifically the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)—among the top requesters.

6,826 Data Requests, Mostly from US Authorities, Are Handled by Kraken
According to Kraken’s transparency report, which was released on February 19, 2025, the exchange received 6,826 data requests from 71 nations in 2024—a significant rise over the year before. With 1,951 requests, or 28.6% of the total, the United States had the biggest percentage.

The FBI received 614 requests, or 31% of all requests made in the United States, more than any other agency. Meanwhile, 1.9% of all U.S. agency requests were from the SEC, which filed a lawsuit against Kraken in 2023 on claims that it ran an unlicensed exchange.

The Kraken 57% of Requests Were Fulfilled

Kraken revealed that it supplied information for 10,369 Kraken accounts, or 57% of all requests, in 2024. The majority of these accounts belonged to customers who were based in Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Kraken’s devotion to regulatory compliance while protecting user privacy was highlighted in the report. The exchange said, “Kraken has stringent policies and procedures to comply with laws and regulations while protecting client privacy. We receive many types of information requests.”

Although the SEC received very few requests, it accounted for 37% of all regulatory requests in the United States. The State Regulatory Agency, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), and the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) were among the other U.S. regulatory agencies that requested information.

Australia, the UK, and Germany One of the Leading Foreign Requesters
Germany, the UK, and Australia were among the countries that requested Kraken’s data the most frequently outside of the United States. Spain, Canada, France, Italy, and the British Virgin Islands were also among the top 10.

Kraken reaffirmed their dedication to openness by saying:

“Our longstanding dedication to meeting legal and regulatory requirements in a manner that supports law enforcement while safeguarding our clients’ privacy is demonstrated by our consistent disclosure of compliance information.”

The claim comes after Kraken’s yearly financial report, which revealed that the exchange made $1.5 billion in 2024, a 128% rise over 2023.
