Ethereum Whale Linked to Nexo Dumps $17M ETH on Binance

Ethereum is preparing for a major network upgrade called Pectra, set to go live on May 7, 2025. This update aims to improve scalability, user experience, and staking efficiency. With ETH trading around $1,799—down 56% from its December 2024 high—Pectra might be the spark Ethereum needs to regain investor attention.

What’s Changing With Pectra

Pectra combines elements from two previous upgrade tracks—Prague and Electra—and introduces several key improvements:

  • EIP-7702 allows regular Ethereum wallets to act like smart contracts for a short time. This means users can pay gas fees in tokens other than ETH and enjoy smoother wallet features.
  • EIP-7251 raises the maximum staked amount per validator from 32 ETH to 2,048 ETH. This helps large players stake more efficiently.
  • EIP-7002 lets validators exit directly from the execution layer, making staking more flexible.
  • EIP-6110 speeds up the validator onboarding process from several hours to about 13 minutes.

What This Means for ETH Price

These upgrades could affect ETH’s price in several ways:

  • Stronger demand: Better user experience may attract more developers and users to the network.
  • Reduced supply: More ETH could be locked in staking, reducing the amount in circulation.
  • Burn rate boost: If on-chain activity rises, more ETH will be burned during transactions, which could support the price.

Can Pectra Trigger a New Rally?

Technical indicators suggest ETH may have found a local bottom. RSI broke out of its downtrend on April 20, signaling a potential reversal after months of decline.

Previous upgrades like the Merge (2022) and Shapella (2023) didn’t drive lasting rallies due to poor market conditions. But Pectra is arriving during a potentially stronger phase—similar to 2021, when upgrades fueled a major bull run. If the broader crypto market cooperates, Pectra could help Ethereum regain momentum.

What’s Next

Later in 2025, Ethereum plans to launch another upgrade called Fusaka. Together with Pectra, these updates aim to keep Ethereum competitive and investor-focused.
