A $2 million grant program has been announced by the Ethereum Foundation to support scholarly study on Ethereum. Following successful iterations in 2023 and 2024, the third iteration of the Annual Academic Grants Round will take applications until 23:59 AoE on March 16, 2025. To increase Ethereum’s scholarly involvement, the 2025 award cycle is accepting ideas in the fields of economics, cryptography, consensus protocols, security, and the humanities.
As long as they support Ethereum’s objective, researchers from over the world are welcome to apply for the program at any level of the study, from conceptual frameworks to studies that are almost finished. The fact that 300 applications from 25 countries were received in the last round highlights the increasing scholarly interest in Ethereum’s ecosystem.
With an emphasis on creative contributions to Ethereum’s development, the foundation hopes to increase involvement even further this year. Academic institutions, researchers, educators, and teams are among the eligible applicants; submissions must include a thorough plan, budget, schedule, and links to public repositories. All financed projects must produce open-access research, and postdoctoral mentors are required for undergraduate students.
Proposals for coin launches, financial goods, creative initiatives, and requests for retroactive funding are not accepted into the program. Impact, team experience, clarity, and compatibility with Ethereum’s priorities will all be taken into consideration while evaluating submissions.
The news is consistent with the Ethereum Foundation’s more comprehensive strategic resource allocation, which includes investments in DeFi platforms that are made to work in unison with Ethereum’s protocol.
