Ether Primed for $3.5K Rally Amid Growing Trader Optimism
By Published On: 12/03/2025

According to a document made on March 11, the Cboe BZX Exchange has submitted a proposal to U.S. regulators asking for permission to incorporate staking into Fidelity’s Ethereum ETF (FETH). This action is the most recent attempt by a U.S. exchange to include staking in an exchange-traded fund (ETF) that is based on ether.

The Fidelity Ethereum Fund would be able to “stake, or cause to be staked, all or a portion of the Trust’s ether through one or more trusted staking providers” under the proposed rule change, according to the petition. By enabling the fund to take part in Ethereum’s proof-of-stake consensus process, if approved, this might increase investment profits.

The Regulatory Environment and Staking
By locking Ethereum with a validator, staking allows investors to profit while enhancing network security. Data from Staking Rewards indicates that as of March 11, staking Ether yields an estimated annual percentage rate (APR) of 3.3%.

Cboe has attempted to incorporate staking into an Ethereum ETF previously. The exchange applied for regulatory authority to start staking the 21Shares Core Ethereum ETF in February. As part of their blockchain architecture, other cryptocurrencies, like Solana (SOL), also include staking.

Before staking can be implemented, Cboe’s proposed rule changes still need to be approved by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Notably, since President Donald Trump started his second term on January 20, the SEC has accepted several exchange files pertaining to cryptocurrency ETFs, raising the possibility of a change in the agency’s regulatory stance.

More General Crypto ETF Advancements
In addition to staking, Cboe and other exchanges have submitted ideas for new altcoin-based funds, options trading, and in-kind redemptions. Along with supporting in-kind creations and redemptions for Fidelity’s Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether ETFs, Cboe has also asked for permission to list Canary and WisdomTree’s proposed XRP ETFs.

There is a growing drive for more investment opportunities in the digital asset sector, as seen by the rising number of regulatory filings. Fidelity’s Ethereum ETF may be among the first significant cryptocurrency funds in the United States to include staking if the SEC approves it, which might have an impact on future ETF designs in the developing cryptocurrency industry.
