Justin Bons from CyberCapital has recently sparked a debate within the Cardano community by making a striking claim: Cardano (ADA) and similar alternative layer-1 blockchains ought to look towards Solana (SOL) for inspiration. Amidst a competitive landscape where each blockchain strives to highlight its distinct features, Bons’ assertion is indeed bold.
He suggests that Cardano and its peers should not criticize Solana for its bot-driven activity and the low transaction fees that enable arbitrage opportunities. Instead, they should view these elements positively. Bons believes that high levels of bot activity indicate robust usage, and the economic model of a blockchain shouldn’t be affected by the type of transactions, as long as the fees are being paid. He draws a comparison with the stock market, where bot activity is seen as a positive influence, implying that blockchains should adopt a similar stance.
For Cardano to emulate Solana’s achievements, Bons argues it needs to reduce its transaction fees and possibly increase bot activity, which he sees as an indicator of network value. However, this viewpoint has faced opposition from some who link high bot activity with potential network congestion and security vulnerabilities, as seen in past incidents within the Solana network.
Bons’ recent pivot from a critic to a supporter of Solana has also attracted attention and skepticism. Nonetheless, he remains committed to his beliefs, arguing that blockchain networks should be impartial to the types of transactions they process, focusing instead on their contribution to the network’s utility and economic framework.
