US share of global crypto developers fell 26% in 5 years — a16z

-

According to a report by the venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), the share of global cryptocurrency developers based in the U.S. has declined by 26% from 2018 to 2022. To support its conclusions, the report cites Electric Capital and SimilarWeb data showing that the U.S. share of global cryptocurrency developers was nearly 40% in 2018, but dropped to less than 30% in 2022. A lack of clarity in the regulatory framework was cited as a possible reason for this drop, with a16z stating that this hinders web3 growth and could lead to America losing its edge. Nevertheless, a16z expressed optimism that the U.S. could regain some of its lost ground with the passage of bills aimed at providing regulatory clarity for crypto assets. The report also cites several important cryptocurrency cases that could be identified shortly as reasons for hope.
