Ethereum researcher Vivek Raman predicts that a Shanghai upgrade allowing validators to withdraw blocked funds could hurt the ethereum price in the short term, but will significantly benefit the native Ethereum token in the long term by increasing betting capital and improving network security. The update, scheduled for April 12, will complete the network’s transition to a proof-of-stake system and unlock about 18 million ETH for withdrawals. While this may cause some pressure on sellers, Raman believes that unlocking Ether will reduce investment risk, encourage institutional investors to participate in betting and ultimately improve network security by increasing the cost of attacks on the scheme.
