Bitcoin Whitepaper inside MacOS

-

Since 2017, someone has hidden the Bitcoin Whitepaper into every copy of MacOS that has been shipped.

Blogger Andy Baio recently rediscovered this and wrote about it on his site Waxy. According to Baio, you can access a copy of the whitepaper by using the terminal software and the following commands:

open /System/Library/Image\ Capture/Devices/VirtualScanner.app/Contents/Resources/simpledoc.pdf

(If you’re not comfortable with Terminal, open Finder and click on Macintosh HD, then open the System→Library→Image Capture→Devices folder. Control-click on VirtualScanner.app and Show Package Contents, open the Contents→Resources folder inside, then open simpledoc.pdf.)

it will likely remain a mystery why this File was included. We’ll find out soon if it is in MacOS 14, which is anticipated to come later this year.It will be interesting to see whether Apple notices this and removes it through its normal cadence of fixes distributed to MacOS users.
