In Argentina, a nationwide contactless card used to pay for public transport can now be refilled with bitcoins. SUBE smart card users can refill it with cryptocurrency in 37 cities in Argentina.
This opportunity became available thanks to the cooperation of the operator Alto Viaje with the fintech-company Bitex. The head of Bitex, Manuel Bodrum, said: “We believe that this project is of great importance because it brings advanced technologies, such as Bitcoin, to the masses.”
According to the website of the government of Argentina, the SUBE card can be used throughout the country – in buses, trains, subways and even on public motor boats.
Also, the authorities intend to connect to the platform a network of Rapipago, designed to pay bills for utilities, private services and taxes.
